Anti-personnel

Current positioning regarding AP

The wide-area coverage profile of the MP-DEW-002 makes it inherently more effective than traditional point-source dazzlers in scenarios where broad visual disruption is required. Unlike narrow-beam systems that require precise targeting of individual optics, the MP-DEW-002’s field-of-effect design allows a single operator to influence a large visual zone simultaneously. In theory, this enables one operator to disrupt the optical capability of multiple personnel positioned along a tree line or open-field boundary, providing a tactical advantage in perimeter, standoff, or area-denial scenarios.

Antipersonnel (AP) optical disruption use cases are covered under existing intellectual property protections; however, the MP-DEW-002 has not been cleared, certified, or operationally validated for antipersonnel employment at this time. Tactical Laser Defense Systems does not recommend or endorse the use of this system against personnel. Current deployment and testing are limited to counter-optical and counter-sensor applications consistent with approved operational doctrine and applicable law.

Relevant International Legal & Treaty Frameworks

Use of directed-energy systems against personnel may be restricted or influenced by the following international agreements and legal principles:

  • Geneva Conventions – Governing the protection of civilians and combatants in armed conflict
  • Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) – Includes Protocol IV on Blinding Laser Weapons
  • Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions – Addresses means and methods of warfare
  • Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) – Principles of distinction, proportionality, and necessity
  • Customary International Humanitarian Law (IHL) – Established norms governing weapon effects
