Drone warfare has changed the modern battlefield. In fact drone warfare will shape civilization in a way which has not been seen since the invention of nuclear weapons.
Signal jammers are not working
In active warzones such as Ukraine, signal jammers have a spotty record at best . As they are being deployed at the company level or above, if they fail or are neutralized, the soldier at the team level is left defenseless. In addition, here in the United States, it is not only illegal to deploy a Jammer for training purposes, it is illegal to be in possession of one.
Are shotguns a viable solution?
Although there are now reports that shotguns are being issued in Ukraine, the shotgun as a tertiary weapon has several disadvantages, not the least of which is the time to transition from your primary weapon. In addition, one of the most critical issues is the necessity to carry and be to be able to re-supply ammunition.
Dazzlers
Dazzlers are being used as C-UAS and are proven effective. The problem is that they are usually large and until now, generally vehicle mounted systems. THere are exceptions, several nations including the US have done work in this area. The precursor to the Chinese ZKZM-500, the ZM-87 is one exception, although information about the system is limited. It is known that that the power output exceeded that which is established by treaty. Much of this development was done before the threat from small drones emerged, now that it has , the effectiveness of dazzlers as a countermeasure is proven.
